The National Center of Competence in Research 'MUST - Molecular Ultrafast Science and Technology' (http://www.nccr-must.ch/) will provide new theoretical as well as experimental methodologies to study ultrafast dynamic processes in matter with atomic spatial resolution. Such multidisciplinary efforts will help members of MUST to understand and solve problems related to energy and fuel production through light harvesting or to gain new insights into the functioning of large molecular complexes and strongly correlated materials. Moreover, they will teach us about underlying principles, such as electron transfer dynamics, signaling with large molecules, or the interplay between electronic, magnetic and nuclear degrees of freedom in strongly correlated matter. The NCCR MUST consists of 15 Swiss research teams, several junior principal investigators and associated groups; MUST started operation in Juli 2010 and held its inauguration meeting in Januar 2011 with about 120 participants. In the current issue of CHIMIA all science teams of the NCCR MUST provide a glimpse into some of their research efforts, of course with emphasis on topics related to MUST. |
